Anti-Doping

The International Table Tennis Federation was founded in 1926. Since then, one characteristic has been common to most of our World and Olympic Champions: Fair Play.

Fair Play includes the fight against doping.

The use of doping substances or doping methods to enhance performance is fundamentally wrong and is detrimental to the overall spirit of sport. Drug misuse can be harmful to an athlete’s health and to other athletes competing in table tennis, or in any other sport. It severely damages the integrity, image and value of sport, whether or not the motivation to use drugs is to improve performance.

To achieve integrity and fairness in sport, a commitment to a clean field of play is critical. The ITTF seeks to maintain the integrity of table tennis by running a comprehensive anti-doping program that focuses equally on education/prevention and on testing, with consequent sanctioning of those who break the rules.

This July 2023, The International Testing Agency (ITA) is hosting a series of webinars, inviting the entire table tennis family. Players, coaches and all involved are strongly advised to attend the webinars; conducted in English, with simultaneous translation being available in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish. Those who attend all five sessions will receive a certificate from the ITA. Please visit this link for more information on how to register for the sessions.

Prohibited List – important changes

However, since 1st January 2023, there is a new WADA’s Prohibited list in force, with stakeholders asked to note new additions to the list of anabolic agents listed as prohibited, and new examples of stimulants. There are a number of other important changes, therefore, we do recommend everyone to review the medicaments that may be eventually being utilised as of 1st January 2023.
